Headsets are difficult on the Xbox 360 because the game sound is coming from the back of the console while the voice chat is originating from the controller. Turtle Beach attempts to solve that problem with the Ear Force XL1 with a small USB powered amplifier and mixer that plugs into both the console's AV ports and the controller's voice chat connector. The amplifier also makes it possible to adjust the volume of both sources of audio independently.I found it interesting that Turtle Beach really didn't mention much about the fact that this is a wired (and not wireless) device. The analog RCA connectors need to be connected to the Xbox 360's AV cable and then run across the room to where you or your favorite gamer will be seated. The cables do allow the Xbox to continue being connected to a stereo system or television, so it's possible to get both headset audio and external audio simultaneously.A USB connector on the front of the headphones needs to be connected to the front of the XBox. That powers the amplifier. A small cable needs to be run from the Xbox 360 controller to the amplifier as well for the voice chat to work. It works with both the wired and wireless flavors of Xbox controllers.Audio quality sounds about what you'd expect from a sub-$40 headset - nothing spectacular. The bass is there but not booming like you'd feel out of more expensive headphones. One thing that is apparent is how loud these things are - almost dangerously so. I'd recommend parents supervise their kids usage of these things to ensure they don't have the volume up too high. But for the price these are a good choice for those looking for an inexpensive gaming headset - especially for spouses or parents who are sick of hearing Xbox game audio booming through the house.

The Turtle Beach Air Force XL1 Gaming Headset is a solid competitor in the "Headset Wars" offering decent quality at a mid-range price. These headsets boast sophisticated sound amplification technology for a more immersive experience, with buIlt-in bass boost and full-range 50mm speakers. That sounds like a lot of High-Techie lingo doesn't it? Translating it to more simple, non-Geek language: These headsets offer a booming bass, which means explosive sounds (like in Call of Duty) are ear-shatteringly realistic. What I Like:~ The affordable price means I don't have to weep when a cord is crimped or severed or when my teen spills Mr. Pibb Xtra on them. Easy to replace.~ The packaging was user-friendly. It was easy to access the headset without an industrial hacksaw.~ I particularly like that I can hear my eon voice in the headset - crystal clear and at a reasonable level. As a parent, this means I don't need to listen to my son screaming at his gaming buddies to, "Take the damned shot!"~ I recently used this headset on an international Skype call with my husband in Iraq. The clarity was remarkable. I appreciated the ability to converse semi-privately.~ The "Mix in Music" feature us wicked cool. I'll admit to being a bit of an Assassins Creed fanatic. I appreciated being able to mix in my own music while playing the game. What I Don't Like:~ Slippage. I have a small head and the set slipped around a bit.~ Cords! I hate cords! I really wish these could be Bluetooth/cordless headsets .~ I wish the manufacturer would've included plugs/adapters so these headsets can be used with multiple media devices.~ difficult to connect. Not as simple as plug and play.BOTTOM LINE: a decent headset for the price with good quality sound and a few neat features.

I read on the box that Turtle Beach Ear Force XL1were great for gaming specifically for XBox 360, and also Skype, which I do a lot more. I ordered them and found I no longer had the correct plug ins on the back of my desk top PC (when did they quit using those?) any way, with the help of a 'y' adapter (also sold on Amazon http://tinyurl.com/pjlkhqa ) THEY DO work fantastically well with a PC, and laptop. Of course, they're made for gaming, so you have a few yards of wire to contend with, if you are up to binding that, you will be able to listen to your tunes with fantastic bass which is so difficult to get with the usual ear buds. The Turtle Beach Ear Force XL1 are light, adjustable, and the ear pieces are amazingly comfortable; no headache from too much compression. Also, the ear pieces seal around the ear as opposed to resting on top of it, or going into it. I actually got these for my husband but I love them so much...They also have the microphone which allows you to hear yourself in the headset, so that you aren't yelling, which is great if you share a room /office and want to Skype. For all these reasons, they make a fantastic gaming headset. If you bought these for your kids, good luck getting Turtle Beach Ear Force XL1 away from them! I'm already having trouble parting with mine.

I own a Turtle Beach Ear Force P4c PlayStation 4 Gaming Chat Communicator that I use on my computer for an MMO that I play. I love the headset as it allows me to hear what's going on around me out of my uncovered ear and because of the venting in the single earcup. The earcup is also well padded and the mic easily rotates when I flip the headset to be over either my left or right ear. I have never had a problem either hearing my fellow players or having them hear me w/o feedback or cutouts.I list this other Turtle Beach headset because other than the additional earcup and without the earcup venting, the Turtle Beach Ear Force XL1 has the same superior overall performance - great sound reproduction both through the twin earcups and through the (identical) microphone and I've never had a problem with it while playing on-line through my X-Box 360 gaming system. In addition, the chord is super long - well over 6 ft - and is perfectly suited for moving around while you play. I love the bass boost and the very clear 3D/Surround Sound reproduction of the game audio. I am beyond happy that I got this headset for free!!!I've owned many Turtle Beach audio electronics in the past 20 years and the company keeps producing clear winners!
